| When: 9-Aug-1945 Deaths: 140,000  DescriptionThe United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki, Japan near the end of World War 2. This was the second atomic bomb to be used in military action. 90% of the casualties were civilian Japanese, living in the city. 70,000 people died immediately another 70,000 died late as a result of the bombing.
